Single: “Girl You Know It’s True” (Numarx/Milli Vanilli)

About
“Girl You Know It’s True”

“Girl You Know It’s True” is a song by Numarx from 1987, written by William Pettaway Jr., Sean Spencer, Kevin Liles, Rodney Hollaman, and Kayode Adeyemo. It became internationally known a year later when it was covered by the German-produced band Milli Vanilli. Released in 1988 the song was part of Milli Vanilli’s debut album of the same name. Milli Vanilli, consisting of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus, gained massive popularity for their catchy music and stylish image.

However, their success was marred by controversy. It was later revealed that Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus didn’t actually sing the vocals on their recordings. This revelation led to a scandal that tarnished Milli Vanilli’s reputation.

In 1990, they were stripped of their Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and their music career plummeted. The incident brought attention to the issue of lip-syncing in the music industry and raised questions about authenticity in pop music. Milli Vanilli’s story serves as a cautionary tale about the pressures and pitfalls of the entertainment world. Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus went on to pursue other musical projects separately, and Rob Pilatus sadly faced personal struggles before his untimely death in 1998.
